Staff Notes
Our purpose here is to work on getting her to make these thing part of her routine. She will probably complete them to a substandard level. When she completes these tasks, or parts of these tasks feel free to point out any shortcomings once, “Maddie, you left a mess on the counter.” Do not be too critical of her performance. The plan is, once this becomes a regular thing and we are no longer met with attitude every time we ask, we will start to push for higher standards. This also means that staff may have to go behind her and “fix” what she has done. Try and do this when she is not present and still provide praise or thanks for having attempted the task.
The purpose of this plan is to motivate her to complete basic independent living tasks while avoiding conflict. Provide prompting calmly and matter of fact. Do not come across as too invested in them being done or being done well. It is self-defeating to come across as emotionally invested or to get into a power struggle with her. This is about her learning skills, not our meeting some quota. Mom, Ida, or Erik will go over the amount she could have earned, and the amount she did earn at the end of the week.
