JOB TITLE: Direct Support Professional
REPORTS TO: Support Coordinator
CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt
SUMMARY: Provide living support for adults with developmental disabilities in their homes. The position requires that the employee ensure the health and safety of the individual they are working with, at all times, and engage them to support all their daily living tasks as well as working toward specific goals as outlined in their service plans.
LOCATION: As services are provided in the homes of the individuals that 3D Supports provides support for, the position requires a reliable means of transportation to and from locations in the community in one of three areas, West Los Angeles, San Fernando Valley, or Antelope Valley, where the employee is assigned. In addition, the employee may be asked, but not required, to cover shifts outside their area.

3D Supports provides 24 hour a day supports. Work hours are varied depending on the particulars of the case where the employee is working. Shifts are typically eight hours long but may be shorter depending on the specifics of the case.

Direct Support Professionals work with individuals with developmental disabilities (IDD) in their homes. Support is specific to the needs and challenges of the individual and is dependent on the level and nature of their disability. Said duties can include, but are not limited to:
- Support and instruct individuals with developmental disabilities in all areas of household maintenance, cleaning, and meal preparation.
- Support and instruct individuals with developmental disabilities to access their community for social and recreational purposes as well as community activities integral for a typical adult, including but not limited to:
- Grocery Shopping
- Budgeting and money management
- Movies, Theater, and other entertainment events
- Walking, Hiking, and other outdoor exercise
- Socialization and community access
- Support and instruct individuals with developmental disabilities to schedule and access medical and dental appointments.
- Support and instruct individuals with developmental disabilities to understand and follow medical advice and directives.
- Support and instruct individuals with developmental disabilities in hygiene, toileting and grooming activities.
- Support and instruct individuals with developmental disabilities to work toward and meet their goals as set forth in their Individualized Service Plans.
- Support and supervise individuals with developmental disabilities to take all medication as prescribed and directed by medical and psychiatric clinicians.
- Provide physical support as needed for all the above activities for those individuals with developmental disabilities with physical limitations that prevent them from doing them in part or completely.
- Provide behavioral support, redirection, and intervention as need for individuals with developmental disabilities with behavioral challenges.
- Work closely with consultants such as therapists, psychiatrists, behavioral therapists, and case managers to implement the goals and procedures set forth by those consultants.
- Promote independence, health, wellness, and quality of life for all individuals that receive services from 3D Supports
- Implement the philosophy and practices of 3D Supports’s mission and value statements.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School degree or equivalent
- Commitment to person-centered philosophy of supports
- Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and as a member a support team.
- Ability to deal effectively with a diversity of individuals and their disabilities and challenges thereof.
- Good judgement with the ability to make timely and sound decisions.
- Creative, flexible, and innovative team player.
